In the northern and eastern part of Nepal lies a large part of the Himalayan mountains including Mount Everest which is the highest point on earth with a summit of 8848 meters. Nepal furthermore features seven of the ten highest mountains on earth.

The Everest base camp is located at 5400 meters above sea level. It is a primitive camp site at the foot of the Khumbu icefall. Although you can not see Mount Everest from the base camp many trekkers consider this place a highlight of their trip. From Kala Pattar you get a far better view of Mount Everest, the Khumbu icefall, and the surrounding mountain giants.

In the 50′s the mountain region in Nepal was opened to climbers, adventurers and travelers. All are primarily being attracted by the desire to see the highest mountain in the world with their own eyes. Mount Everest is just one of many spectacular peaks of the Himalayas.

Cigarette Smoking in Nepal

Nepali people love food and you can find delicious food anywhere you go in Nepal. Smoking is second in popularity and in the Nepali language you “eat” or “drink” cigarettes! Many of the people in Nepal smoke.

Despite the low price to Western people cigarettes are still quite expensive for locals. Porters rarely buy a pack – usually only a single cigarette. You can certainly make a porter happy by offering him a cigarette on the road. The most known brands are Khukri and Sikhar. Western import cigarettes can be bought in all tourist areas and are significantly cheaper than in Europe or America.

Electronic cigarettes are not common in Nepal and we do not know of stores selling them. A local man seemed to find interest in our e-cigarette and so we had him take a few puffs. His feedback was not as positive as the electronic cigarette review we posted a while ago. He did not like it that much and probably wondered what the point was. He loves his local tobacco which was way too rough for us.

Climate in Nepal – Best Time to Visit

The climate in Nepal is generally pleasant. The summer coincides with the monsoon and extends from June to October. The other months of the year are dry. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons. Winter is cold with a lot of frost and snow in the mountains.

The Kathmandu valley can be visited throughout the year yet it is less recommend to go during the monsoon season from June to mid / late September. The best time to visit the Kathmandu valley is after the monsoon season in the fall.

Nepal is fighting against tobacco

The World Health Organisation (WHO) praises Nepal for implementing regulations to control tobacco. The WHO believes that the regulation will control smoking and other consumptions of tobacco products which are considered the main problem of public health.

Nepal chief of WHO Dr Lin Aung praises the role of Nepal in controlling tobacco at a function organised by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

According to WHO, 15,000 Nepalis per year die due to tobacco.
